I am so proud of this wedding. Avery of Green Honolulu went over board when she designed this unique and rustic altar piece. The bride, groom & I struggled to create a masterpiece and Avery made it a reality. She wowed all the guests and bridal party with her decor from table tops to signage. Kahaluu Fishpond was magical & majestic. Ginniberries won the crowd with their amazing sauces, presentation and quality of food. Thanks to the very talented Ruth Anne we all get to look back and enjoy her photos. Accel Party Rentals had the perfect over size tables to accommodate our beautiful burlap runners & an array of florals. Scott stayed to ensure perfection. Thank you Scott! Pacific Party Rentals provided us with the tenting, staging and lighting. What a team!!! They are off the hook!

Kumquat Trees that were given to their parents to be planted after their gorgeous use on wedding day. Modern Day Design added touches of terracotta pots, sliced open grapefruits and tons of California spring flowers. Villa Del Sol De Ora was the beautiful estate the ceremony & reception took place. Rain, Rain Go Away....Lanikuhonua Wedding

This wedding was so fun because the bride took advantage of a winter wedding. Lanikuhonua Phase 2 is usually very dry but not today! It was supposed to be a full moon & beautiful sunset. It was a gorgeous ceremony & cocktail hour, then came the rain, and more rain, and more rain. Cater To Me did the most fabulous job of rolling with it. We went from live action stations to served family style. The bartenders became Vegas style while running back & forth with bottles of wine, champagne & signature cocktails. All vendors were soaked from head to toe! The bride had to stand on a chair as the 2-4" of rain came into our tent. I whispered into her ear, "look at everyone right now they are all having a blast!". The next day she called me & said she loved the rain & if she ever had to do it over again she wouldn't of changed a thing. Almost a year later I write this & still get chicken skin. I struggled with this photo. We planned and had time to do this at the beach. After the guests huddled close together under umbrellas I couldn't keep them there for a group photo. As John Cruz played the crowd surrounded him, the beat was great and it was a perfect opportunity to interrupt and take the photo. But it's John Cruz?! Shoot! Thanks to my team of gals & Matt Shumate who encouraged me to do it. I stood there thinking, 'Ten years from now what will they want more? John Cruz live for another song or a group photo capturing all their family and friends"? We chose the latter. I am sad that Matt lives in Washington. We were blessed to have him come out for the Hawaii wedding. He travels & it's worth it.

Sweet Home Waimanalo Wedding

We started out as acquaintances and by the wedding day we were friends. This darling couple chose Waimanalo Beach & Polo Field as their wedding location for one reason, it was where they fell in love. The gray clouds, non-stop sprinkle and soft wind didn't stop them from making their vows in front of all their family & friends, (including his brother who just had a baby and his lovely wife let him go be by his brother's side) most of them out of towners, on May 7, 2011. Matt Shumate's Photography captured the love that poured out all evening long! They arrived in style, a loaner old school VW blue bug. The party started when they pulled straight up to the tent. John Cruz did a wonderful kick-a$$ job of putting a groove in the house! Beaches and Backyards Catering killed it with their fresh catch, Waimanalo corn on the cob & Nalo greens. Aloha Party Rentals went above & beyond setting up in the bad weather. Verse One Productions & Custom Audio kept the party going with fabulous tunes & live music. My favorite part of the evening is these darling girls came in and stole the show when they did their hula. It was a great party! Don't worry about the weather, it's all about who is around you and why you are there.

I have to say this was my favorite wedding theme of 2010. Havana Hawaii! First off, I adore the couple. Second it was my first stab at this theme. Guests arrived to Cuban postcards which they signed and dropped in the "mailbox". The picked up their escort cards that were pinned to orange cuties from Safeway. They were greeted with signature mojito's by my favorite bartenders Greg & Dricka of Hoonui Events. The bride had very unique ideas like the capriz shell curtain on the bamboo arch & hiring a professional dancer to give her guests salsa lessons during her wedding. That was a HUGE hit!!! Live Salsa Band by Rolando Sanchez, Professional Salsa Dancers and Cuban food from Soul De Cuba. The lighting decor was done by Hawaii Stage & Lighting who are very dear to my heart. Star Creations did the florals. We took leftover coffee cans, thanks to Agnes Bakery (who also made a delicious cake), the groom wrapped them in fun Cuban prints and Romy filled them with bright & vibrant flowers. Rebecca Mench hit it out of the park with a surprise groom's cake of his favorite tequila bottle.

The Baseball theme continues as the bride & groom take on the military tradition of swords. My all time favorite photo in this album is the bride & groom with her parents in focus during the ceremony. I adored her mother. Dmitri captured every emotion in every photo. Check out his blog for more. The bride's talented uncle of Flower N Fun designed the tables with hot pink roses, green apples and lilies. Escort cards were pinned into a green apple which made for a quick & healthy snack:-).

A lovely November wedding at Lanikuhonua on the west side of Oahu. The bride did a magnificent job planning, designing and hiring all vendors. They are ball players which is why the ring bearer is carrying the rings in a baseball glove, love it! Any time you can personalize your wedding and make it different than all the rest GO FOR IT! Three time keiki world champion and one time world champion fire dancer. This 10 year old stole the show at an intimate Polynesian Show for a destination wedding at Loulu Palm. I fell in love with this bride. It's not everyday you connect with your bride so much you wish you lived closer because you know the two of you would be friends. The photo of her & her dad gives me tears, like it would if your best friend was taking the dance floor with their dad. Stefanie & Anna Riedel captured these moments, not just for me but the bride & entire family. All the way from Rhode Island on Thanksgiving weekend the two declared their love for each other on the North Shore of Oahu at the grand spot of Loulu Palm. I will forever be grateful for Romy Takahashi of Star Creations because she went above & beyond. She substituted all green dendrobiums orchids for CYMBIDIUMS as a surprise to the bride!!! Who does that? Romy does! The brides all peoni bouquet and the bridesmaids all roses bouquet (check it out, they look like peonies!). The lavish table top with exclusive home made jelly from the bride looked like a table out of Pottery Barn, I'm not gonna lie. The bride also surprised her groom with the mascot of his favorite team Florida Gators by Shawna Kalahiki. Shawna knocked it out of the park! When asked to kiss her, the groom kissed the gator!

Even though this wedding was in 2008, it's timeless! My incredible assistant, Christina Johnson took the reigns & planned this wedding with the lovely bride. It was an all white dress destination wedding. The groom surprised the bride with the drape that was "too expensive" but was "always something" she "dreamed of". Her face was priceless! Stefanie Riedel took all the wonderful photos & blogged them. Thanks to her we got published. Michelle Maeda of Flower Girls gave the tall, ocean blue, Hawaiian centerpiece some bling for the bride which was perfect for her custom made jewels on her cake.

Simple Hawaiian Style Centerpiece

We had a lot of fun creating this inexpensive table centerpiece. Photography by Eugene Kam. We rented monkey pod compartment plates from Accel Party Rentals. The bride & groom chose these fun fabrics that have a special meaning in Taiwan for each guest to take home (and use at their napkin in the meantime). Then we added a simple pineapple (that was cut up & added to the dessert table later), a 6" cake centerpiece by Agnes Bakery for each table and a bud vase with a loud pop of yellow flowers by Romy Takahashi of Star Creations. The ends of the tables carried 2 votive candles and above the tables were orange, yellow & green lanterns purchased at www.justartifacts.com.

By popular demand!!! I'm not gonna lie, I didn't know how this would turn out. It would either be really cheesy or SUPER FUN!!! It was SUPER FUN!!! This couple stopped at nothing and took their event to another level! No dancing, no problem, they are toy makers so they did raffle prizes with new toys! The centerpieces were Hello Kitty dolls and they went FAST! Fun erasers like donuts, ice cream, cupcakes filled each setting, grab bags and customized totes designed by cartoonist, the groom himself!

Stephen & Litton Ludwig captured it to the TEE! Well done my friends, well done...I don't have to say anything, the photos speak for themselves! More to come...

Mid Pacific Country Club, Lanikai, HI

These table names maybe my favorite so far. Airline couple used airport codes with a description of where they were and what they did. It still gives me goosebumps writing this. I love Mid Pac, one of my favorite venues on the east side of Oahu, Kailua, Lanikai. The only venue with view of the Mokulua's and Koolau Mountain Range. You can party till 11 pm, valet and yummy food. It's a private club and they only book one event per day so you can be the ONLY bride you see on your wedding day. Their buffets start at $35+++ or how about a wonderful mimosa & bloody mary reception after a sunrise wedding on Lanikai Beach?

Whew, finally back in Portland after a whirlwind. Was so much fun and our wedding was incredible - it far surpassed what we might have hoped for and everyone had a great time. Thank you so much for all the work and relaxation that you put into our wedding. Honestly, you were like a walking meditation - just look at you and all is good. I marvel at that:-). Thank you for buckling up my shoes, for walking me from one place to another and for emanating ease. I was definitely in a world of my own making on my wedding day (and all of the days before) and without your hand - I wouldn't have made it too far.

Also, thank you for ALL you put into making my day so incredibly amazing and perfect. It was beautiful, spectacular, breathtaking, magical and above my dream. I was that girl in heaven and my day of being a princess came true! Actually if was beyond that - it was a dream I couldn't have conjured up on my own.

July 4th Wedding Continues

July 4th Wedding

This wedding had EVERYTHING! A huge wedding party, perfect weather, tons of fun, an intimate & unique ceremony, Jewish traditions, firework show, chuppah hand held by close family & friends, ice cream cake, school bus transportation, open bar, yummy food and a raging after party. I like to call it "A July 4th wedding with Jewish & Hawaiian accents" (clever I know!)...including a surprise hula from lovely & vivacious bride. There was not a dry eye in the house.

Catering Connection hosted all the rentals and high end Hawaiian Luau including a served pipikaula salad in a chinese take out box with chopsticks. Guests were greeted with this on top of their monkeypod plates when invited to sit for dinner.

Romy Takahashi of Star Creations created a simply elegant centerpiece. Three different sized cyclinder vases filled with orchids, floating candle and a submerged cymbidium orchid centerpiece.

DJ Rayne rocked the dance floor with a genre of music to please any crowd.

This was one July 4th I was happy to be working.

I had the pleasure of being a part of Stephen & Litton Ludwig's wedding. They are both so very talented and creative. The details were a photographer's dream. This was a photo shoot heaven! Photographers Noah & Tessa friends of the The Ludwigs who are also amazing photographers, and quite honestly one of my favorites captured stunning photographs. They had everything you can imagine. The best photo booth I've ever seen. A marshmallow (by the way that's really how you spell it, we looked it up, ha ha!) station, pinwheels, balloons, floating lanterns, candy bar, specialized candy wrappers, stunning centerpieces, fabulous food provided by Creations in Catering.

I can't forget Kip the very talented caricaturist. Call me for his information, great guy!

I can't stop talking about it because I used to hate it and now I'm a big fan, the baby's breath bouquet!

I've been in California for 3 weeks now meeting up with my Los Angeles brides who are doing a destination wedding Hawaii. Could this be my new niche???? Hmmm, sounds delish! I love California & Hawaii and now I get the best of both worlds.

I've also booked a few weddings in California, Malibu and Pasadena which is very exciting!

Calamigos Ranch is one of my couples choice locations...get this! I exchange business cards with Erin Bagaason who is one of the Event Coordinators at the ranch and we find out we have 2 mutual friends in Hawaii! Gotta love facebook:-).

So, today is Josh and my 3 year wedding anniversary and I just keep thinking about what a perfect and special day I was so lucky to have!!! It was truly a dream wedding and when I go back and look at the pictures I still have to pinch myself that it all really happened and it was actually my wedding!! I really have you to thank for making my wedding day one of the most amazing days of my life. Our family and friends all still talk about it whenever we get together and we just feel so blessed to have such special memories!!

Lanikuhona Where Heaven Meets The Earth

This place is magical and now holds a new meaning to me. My neice Aurora Rose Lanikuhonua (and let me tell you she is heaven!). This wedding was so much fun. The brides mother & I had a great time planning it. This color was hard to match but we did it! Instead of favors we rented snifters & dropped a gerbera daisy in each glass and placed it at each setting. The splash of color transformed the simple table.

Sweet talk the sound company to put their thinking caps on...in the meantime:

1. Order a satellite stage from hotel/venue
2. Call spot operators in and have them hit the "new stage" with a wash
3. Make friends with the gardener/housekeeper and ask him to decorate with existing plants.
4. Use palms for a quick make shift backdrop
5. Act like it's all in the plan
6. Pray that you have favor with the sound company and they move their stuff & make it work.
7. Cancel all your favors because the sound company IS OUR HERO!

Have a great show, get promoted and tour with them for the next 2 years!

Giving Back!

In this slow season I've decide to work like I'm getting paid! Considering my gifts and talents of planning & organizing I've planned a community day.

I partnered up with Habitat For Humanity www.honoluluhabitat.org, sent out an evite, facebook invitation, email invitation, twitter invite and now blog (all FREE tools) and invited all my friends. As of now we have 50 people signed up, food donated, sound system, rentals and smiling volunteers. It feels good and it was soo easy since I did what I do best - PLAN!

Next month, I've partnered with my local church, Hope Chapel Kailua (www.myspace.com/hopechapelkailua) and Samaritan's Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org) and joined OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD. We collect shoe boxes, wrap them, fill them with gifts & goodies, raise $7 (yes, $7) and send to a child in need. Stay tuned, I'll post pictures.

My sister just got married and since both parents are still married we surprised them and displayed their cake cutting photos at the cake table. It was great seeing "old school" pictures of our parents cutting their cake...my have times changed. She married a fireman and I guess they have this thing where they destroy the wedding cake (hence the hole in the cake). The guests loved it! It made the cake table a very interactive piece of display.

Last weekend I assisted my friend Nichole Shinn who is a fabulous wedding planner. Her bride & grooms parents were both celebrating their 45 th wedding anniversary. The bride surprised both sets of parents with their own tiered wedding cake and called them up to "cut the cake". It was a very special moment!

What to do with all those flowers?

We had some leftover florals from the wedding so per the bride's request I picked them up from The Picket Fence (floral company in Kailua, HI) & I took beautiful roses and fragrant lei to the Birthing Center at Castle Medical Center.

The bride & groom took my advice and being a longtime resident of their hometown they chose vendors locally to keep their money in their neighborhood and hopefully stimulate their economy.

Being that the hospital was 5 mins away, I dropped off the flowers to the receptionist and asked her to please give them to a new mother that may not have any flowers. She lit up and began telling everyone around her what I was doing. I'm not gonna lie, it felt great and I can't wait to do it again.

Canceled Wedding

I've heard it has happened and it finally happened to me.

Someone called off the wedding 3 days before they were to walk down the aisle. My heart sank, my stomach turned and my jaw dropped! Is this some kind of sick joke? I wish.

After 2 days of calling vendors and relaying the sad news we were able to recover some monies. ONLY because I LOVE my vendors and apparently after this fiasco, they love me.

The caterers quickly called their food distributors to stop their orders and were able to cancel a few. Some were already ordered and paid for so we donated the food to a local church. Hopefully the couple will ask their tax person if they can write it off as a donation.

The florist took the flowers that had already arrived and sold them at the local Farmer's market. We recovered partial funds. The rest of the florals were donated to a local hospital that will hopefully brighten someones day.

The minister, limo driver, babysitters, lighting company & generators generously gave them their full refund.

The photographer, hair & makeup artists both said they did not need to receive the balance due.

I wish I could do more to help ease the pain financially and am happy to say that we are returning 20%.

The rental company also gave back over 20%.

None of these vendors needed to return the funds, the date was booked, contract signed and event date staffed. But because they are so kind & generous and passionately love what they do they all pulled together and generously gave back.

Some vendors weren't able to give any back, some gave the full refund while others gave partial. We were able to recover over 50% of their final balances due the week of the wedding.

This doesn't repair the ones that are left broken hearted. I say, it's cheaper than a divorce (mentally, physically, financially & emotionally), however that doesn't heal the hurting...not yet any way.

Black Eyed Peas

I freelance as a production manager for live and corporate shows with Hawaii Stage & Lighting. This weekend the Black Eyed Peas performed. It was a small show on Kaneohe Marine Base so they didn't need me to manage production.

I did however get to enjoy the show. It was FABULOUS! I heart Fergie. I think we'd be BF's 4 ever, if she only knew!

The rooftop was huge! The lighting & special effects including the 20+ mins firework show was over the top! www.hslr.com for all lighting, generators, staging, draping, carpet, you name it, they got it!

I adore him, he is so easy to work with. He is so flexible and quiet. I cannot stand a loud photographer. I don't want to hear or see him while someone is getting married. This is Stephen. You don't even realize he is there. He moves quietly. I had a bride freak out once, saying "I don't think our photographer took any pictures of the ceremony, I never saw him". I reassured her that he was there and to just wait for the fabulous photos. And she did, she was so extremely happy with him she has passed his name on to a whole bunch of her friends.

On the other hand, he is so creative in his shots and his pricing is out of this world! I have NEVER had a complaint. He is the only photographer that I would recommend for my sister's wedding! You MUST check him out.
